Adams State and New Mexico Highlands; Too Much For Mustangs

LOS LUNAS, N.M. - Sunday concluded the South Central Regional Softball Tournament at Los Lunas Sports Complex. The Mustangs would fall to Adams State 8-7 and New Mexico Highlands 12-1. The Mustangs are now (1-4) on the season.

GAME ONE

The Mustangs bats were hot early in the game. In the 1st inning, Jenna Peters (Lake Elsinore, CA/Temescal Canyon HS) got the Mustangs on the board with an RBI single to center field. Following suit, Jordyn Ayala (Tempe, AZ/McClintock HS) and Kennedy Jarrard (Carlsbad, CA/Carlsbad HS) both had RBI singles, bringing the Mustang lead to 3-0.

In the 2nd inning, Aryana Munoz (Dexter, New Mexico/Dexter High School) laid down a bunt to bring in Cassidy Paulson (Arvada, CO/Golden Colorado HS). The Mustangs led 4-0.

The Mustangs extended their lead in the 3rd inning to 5-0 after Ayala reached on an error, bringing in Peters.

In the 4th inning, ASU began to grab momentum. Their first run came on a sacrifice fly. In the 5th inning, they tied the game with an rbi double, an RBI single, and a two-run home run.

The Grizzlies continued to floor the gas pedal putting three more runs up in the 6th inning. ASU scrapped a run with an infield single followed by a two-run double.

In the bottom of the 7th inning, the Mustangs were not going down without a fight. Ayala smacks her first home run of her career, cutting the ASU lead to 8-7.

The Mustangs started Emily Maddux (Douglas, AZ/Douglas High School). She went 2.2 IP, 0 R, 3 H, and 3 BB.Jazmin Kirby came in relief going 2.1 IP, 5 ER, 6 H, 2 K, and BB. Paulson pitched 1.1 IP, 0 R, K, and BB. A. Munoz got the loss, she went 0.2 IP, 3 R (2 ER), 3 H, and 3 BB

The Grizzlies started Jade Garibso in the circle. She threw a complete game going 7.0 IP, 7 H, 7 ER, and 3 BB.

K. Bradford: 2-for-4, 2 R, BB

GAME TWO:

In the 1st inning, the Mustangs loaded the bases and Madeline Bleak (Mesa, AZ/Mountain View HS) had a great at-bat before walking in a run. That would be the only Mustang run for the rest of the game.

In the 2nd inning, the Cowgirls took the lead from a Mickey Sibley RBI double and a costly wild pitch. WNMU trailed 2-1.

NMHU continued to swing their hot bats, hitting a grand slam, putting the Cowgirl lead to 6-1. Later in the 3rd inning, Sibley doubled in another run and scored on a sacrifice fly. After three innings, NMHU led 8-1.

In the 4th inning, the Cowgirls scored four more runs. Another double brought in two runs, followed with a two strike approach to put the ball in play and a costly error.

The game was put out of reach with 12-1 after five innings of play.

Kamyrnn Cordova started the game. She pitched 2.1 IP, 5 H, 7 ER, K, 2 BB, and had the loss.

NMHU's starting pitcher was Maya Milano. She went 5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, K, and 2 BB.
