Box Score THATCHER, Ariz. – The Western New Mexico University Men's tennis team traveled to Mesa CC for their first regular season matchup of the year. The Mustangs would be victorious 8-1.
"There were some solid athletes on MCC's tennis team that caught our guys off guard, but they were able to feed off of each other and take the dub," said Coach Grant DeGrasse.Â
This would be DeGrasse's first win of his Tennis coaching career.
The Mustangs doubles would sweep Thunderbirds 3-0.
In singles, the Mustangs would go 5/6 against the Thunderbirds. No.1 Javier Romero (Tlalnepantla, Mexico/ETAC) would drop his match 3-6, 7-5 and 8-10. No. 2 Patricio Larrea (Ambato, Ecuador/Atenas High School) would win his match 6-3, 4-6, 10-8. No. 3 Brendan Lock (Cheyenne, Wyoming/Cheyenne South HS) would win 6-3, 6-0. No. 4 Lachlan Rowing (Canberra, Australia/Finigan School of Distance Education) won 6-4, 6-3. No. 5 Paul Claussen (Balingen, Germany/Gymnasium Balingen) would be victorious 6-0, 6-3. No. 6 Lorenzo Orellano would be the final win for the Mustangs 6-4, 3-6, 11-9.
The Mustangs will play nexta at New Mexico State on February 11th.
