EL PASO, TEXAS - The Western New Mexico University Women's Golf team finished up the (Cactus Thaw!) at Painted Dunes Golf Course in El Paso, Texas, on Tuesday February 14th. The Mustangs would have to finish Round One in the morning after uncooperative weather would force them to delay Round One until today.
Even with wind gusts up to 25 MPH, WNMU would finish in 3rd place with rounds 326-330-656.
Mia Trousdale (El Paso, TX/Eastwood HS) would finish T-5th at (+15), shooting a 79. Trousdale's two rounds would read 80-79 including two birdies on day one and an Eagle on hole nine for day two.
Chelsea Medina (Silver City, NM/Silver HS) finished T-8th at (+21), shooting an 86. Medina's two rounds would read 79-86 including one birdie on day one.
Taysea Powell (Artesia, NM/Artesia HS) and Alexandria Klemke (Goodyear, AZ/Estrella Foothills HS) would T-12th at (+22), with Powell recording an 82 and Klemke recording an 83. Powell's card would read 84-82 and Klemke's card would read 83-83. Powell would be good for three total birdies, one on day one and two on day two. Klemke would record two birdies, both on day one.
Shandiin Harper (Farmington, NM/Piedra Vista HS) would round out the lineup T-19th at (+27), shooting an 87. Harper's two rounds read 84-87 including one birdie in each round.
Odessa College would win the tournament at (+56). UTPB would finish in second place at (+78). WNMU would finish in third place at (+80)..
Tying for 1st place the tournament is Alisa Brannock and Claudia Alnajim of Odessa College at (+10). Tied for 3rd Prestley Hammond of Lubbock Christian and Eugenie Varet of UTPB at (+14).
The next time the Mustangs will be in action they will travel to the Lady Moc Classic in Lakeland, Florida.
