Portales, NM- Both Men and Women participated in the 2023 Lone Star Conference Championships hosted by Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds earlier this morning.
 
The women kicked off first at the 6K distance, racing 2 and a half loops. Lisbet Porras (Casa Grande, NM/Casa Grande High School) was the first Mustang to finish overall, coming across at 23:58.08. Her position was 35^th individually, averaging 6:26 per mile. Shortly behind her was Aubrey Lozoya (Albuquerque, NM/Cottonwood Classic Prep), who finished 39^th with a time of 24:02.97. She paced Itzela Darkenwald (Conroe, TX/Caney Creek High School) who finished third for the mustangs and a time of 24:18.29. The ladies finished the meet 9^th as a team in the field.
 
The men's race followed theirs as they competed at the 8K distance one last time this season. As the morning went on, the men had to figure out how to run through dust clouds picked up by the women and grueling Portales heat. A surprising finish for the Mustangs was made by Rowan Flores (Española, NM/Los Alamos HS) as he took home 1^st this week for the mustangs team place and 8^th overall making him an All-Conference runner. Placing shortly next to him was Elias Perez (El Paso, TX/Eastwood HS), who took a 15^th overall place finish and also an All-Conference spot as well. His Brother, Aaron Perez (El Paso, TX/Eastwood HS) would be the next one to cross the line as he was clocked at 26:15.92. The men fought hard and finished fourth as a team.

This concludes the LSC Championships as both teams will face their Region for a National spot on Nov. 4 in Lubbock, TX hosted by NCAA.
