Odessa, TX - Saturday afternoon was the Western New Mexico University Softball's final two games of the year. The Mustangs would go on to sweep UT Permian Basin 5-4 and 11-3.
Trish Gallardo (Albuquerque, NM/Volcano Vista High School) has a career day. SHe went 5-for-8, 2 HR (Grand Slam game two), 3B, 5 R, and 7 RBI.

Game One:

The Mustangs would score four runs in the 2nd inning. Aryana Munoz (Dexter, New Mexico/Dexter High School) hit an RBI double. Samantha Gonzales (Miami, AZ/Miami High School) would then hit a two-run single. Bryana Munoz (Dexter, NM/Dexter High School) joined the hit parade with an RBI single.

The Falcons would answer back with a run. They started the inning off with two singles and would put the ball in play to get a run. At the end of the 2nd inning WNMU led 4-1.

UTPB would carry the momentum to the bottom of the 3rd inning with an RBI double. They would then hit a two-run home run, tying the game at 4-4.

The Mustangs would take the lead, 5-4, after a Marina Garcia (Tucson, AZ/Desert View HS) RBI double.

Vanessa Hunt (Phoenix, AZ/Mountain Pointe High School) got the start, going 2.0 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, and 3 BB. Julia Vega (Tucson, AZ/University HS) finished it out and got her first win of the year. She went 5.0 IP, 2 H, 2 K, and BB. 

The Falcons started Destini Trahan. She got no the decision. She went 1.2 IP, 4 H, 4  ER, 2 K, and BB. Abby Cousins got the loss and is (3-4). She went 5.1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER,  and K.

Falcons notable hitters:

Julia Bumford: 1-for-4, HR, 2 RBI

Aracely Araiza: 1-for-4, 2B, 1 RBI

Mustangs Notable hitters:

A. Munoz: 1-for-3, 2B, R, 1 RBI

M. Garcia: 1-for-3, 2B, 1 RBI

B. Munoz: 1-for-3, 1 RBI

Game Two:

The Falcons got on the board first in the 3rd inning scoring two off a double and an error.

The Mustangs answered back right back in the 4th inning, with Trish Gallardo (Albuquerque, NM/Volcano Vista High School) hitting a two-run home run, the first of her career. Samantha Gonzales (Miami, AZ/Miami High School) added another run reaching base off a fielder's choice.

UTPB tied the game in the bottom of the 4th inning, capitalizing on a Mustang error.

In the 5th inning, Aryana Munoz (Dexter, New Mexico/Dexter High School) singled in a run. Kaylee Hickman (Cloudcroft, NM/Cloudcroft High School ) would later single in another Mustang runner. WNMU then led 5-3.

In the top of the 6th inning, The Mustangs added insurance runs after Gallardo would hit a RBI triple. Janae Ruiz (Kearny, AZ/ Ray High School) would then hit in Gallardo, reaching by an error.

Putting the game out of reach, Gallardo would hit a grand slam, making the Mustang lead 11-3.

A. Munoz pitched a complete game for the Mustangs. She pitched 7.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R (1 ER), and 2 K.

UTPB's starting pitcher was Becky Berth. She went 7.0 IP, 12 H, 11 R (10 ER), 4 K, 6 BB, and HBP.
