Box Score Silver City, NM – The Western New Mexico University Men's and Women's tennis teams competed against Dallas Baptist. The women were defeated 6-1 and the men won 5-2.Â
The men won the match 5-2, improving to 9-5 on the year and are now 1-1 in the LSC.
"We stayed professional against a very high energy DBU team," said Hunt. "Jonathan played the #55 ITA ranked player and played exceptionally well."
The Mustangs came out on top with the doubles point, the No. 1 doubles team of Jonathan Vega (Fort Worth, TX/North Crowley HS) and Javier Romero (Estado de Mexico /Instituto Latino Canadiense, Interlaken, ETAC) played a good Patriots team winning 7-6(7-3). The No. 2 doubles team of Joaquin Delpino (Villa Maria, Argentina) and Yu Jhe Du (New Taipei City/Taiwan/Taipei Municipal Jianguo High School) defeated their opponents 6-4. No 3. doubles duo Patricio Larrea (Ambato, Ecuador/Atenas high school ) and Brendan Lock (Cheyenne, Wyoming) won 6-4.Â
In singles, two Mustangs would split sets. Vega won 7-5, 6-3 over the #55 player in the country. Romero would split sets after winning the first set 6-3. He would lose the second set 6-4, then win the match 7-5 in the third set. Larrea had a great match winning 6-2 and 6-4. Lock also played well winning 6-1 and 6-0.
Delpino had a very intense match, splitting sets after losing 7-5. He went on to win 6-2 but fell 7-5 in the third set. Du played a tough match losing 7-5, 6-3.
The Mustang men move to 9-5 on the year.
The Mustangs will go to UT Tyler and Letourneau University on Friday April 1st!
