"We learned a lot from our women this weekend," said Head Coach Alex Hunt. Despite some disappointing results and some uncharacteristically ugly play here and there, we had plenty of highlights from the weekend and we'll be taking momentum from those highlights into our ITA this coming weekend.
In singles, Julia Tozzi (Limeira, Brazil/) defeated a top player from New Mexico State University (6-1, 2-6, 16-14) in a two and a half hour thriller. Emily Wang and Massiel Paredes (Lima, Peru/Pamer HS) also split sets with their DI opponents from Abilene Christian before falling.
Singles on day three, Julia Tozzi (Limeira, Brazil/) and Kajsa Gedlitschka (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley HS) battled and performed at an extremely high level as they were just edged out by two points in third set tie-breakers against UTEP opponents.
"We are excited to get some Division II Lone Star Conference play at our ITA to see how we stack up in the conference," concluded Hunt.
The Mustangs will play back in action next weekend, (9/23-9/25) playing in the South Central Regional ITA in San Angelo, TX.
