Silver City, NMÂ - Head Men's Tennis Coach Alex Hunt has inked in former DI and Wyoming standout, Brendan Lock, bolstering the 2021 class. The native of Cheyenne, Wyoming, signed with Dixie State for the Fall of 2020, but the Trailblazers decided to delay the start of Men's Tennis for a few more years.Â
"Brendan is a fantastic addition to the WNMU Men's Tennis roster. He is a stellar student-athlete who has experienced success both on the tennis court and in the classroom. Brendan's smooth groundstrokes in combination with his big serve are going to be huge tools we can add to our doubles and singles line ups" said Hunt. "His physical gifts are just the beginning with him as well. Brendan has the ideal mindset we are looking for here on the WNMU Tennis team."
Lock comes to WNMU with tremendous accolades. Lock had a magnificent high school career at Cheyenne South High School, finishing with a record of 74-1, including a 60 match win streak from his sophomore year through his senior year. In all four years of high school, Lock played in the No. 1 singles match at the Wyoming State finals. In three of the four years, he was the No. 1 singles Wyoming State Champion.Â
Lock was also a four-time Champion for No. 1 singles South Regional and the No. 1 singles for the Wyoming All-State Recipient. In singles, his highest Intermountain Ranking was 17 and in doubles was 19.
Academically, Lock is an exceptional student. Prioritizing his schoolwork, he finished with a 3.5 GPA at Cheyenne South and a 4.0 GPA at Dixie State.
"He doesn't shy away from intense hard work. He, in fact, welcomes it. He's going to be fun to watch! Exciting times continue for WNMU Tennis!" said Hunt.
