SILVER CITY, N.M. – The Mustangs of Western New Mexico University had a long day, first playing against Concordia University-Irvine this morning and Point Loma Nazarene University Wednesday evening.

Concordia University-Irvine

The women were on the courts first against #22 CUI. The Lady Eagles won the match 6-1. Julia Tozzi (Limeira, Brazil/) was the only Mustang to get a win today winning her sets 7-6 and 4-3 due to retirement. Kajsa Gedlitschka (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley HS) played well after losing her first set 6-1, as she continued to battle before Tiffany Carrillo won the advantage 7-5.

In doubles, the Lady Mustangs didn't have their best stuff, as the Eagles won all three matches.

CUI's men's team is ranked #17 as they defeated the Mustangs 7-0. Jonathan Vega (Fort Worth, TX/North Crowley HS) and Yassine Smeij went up against each other as Smeij won both sets 6-4. Erik Dallman lost 6-1 in his first set but nearly grabbed a win before the Eagles Sofian Taybei Alaoui edged him out 6-4.

In doubles, Rodrigo Mere (Coatepeque, Guatamala/Colegio El Bosque) and Dallman played the best but were defeated 6-4.

Point Loma Nazarene University

Wednesday evening the Mustangs' tennis teams took on Point Loma Nazarene University, as the Mustang men and women fell 4-0.

Tozzi looked great, defeating Angelique Friedrich 7-5 but the match was left unfinished due to the match being clinched. Kajsa Gedlitschka (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley HS) went up against Faith Pearson of the Sea Lions, before losing a tough 6-1 set and was going momentum in an unfinished 4-3 set.

In doubles, Tozzi and Camila Gomez (Bogota, Colombia) have been dominant all season. Against the Sea Lions' Friedrich and Gabi Armas, they were trailing 5-1 as the match was unfinished. Massiel Paredes (Lima, Peru/Pamer HS) and Nicold Gonzalez (Bogota, Colombia/) were defeated 6-1 and Gedlitschka and Terrazas lost 6-0

Vega lost his first set 6-3 and left his match unfinished due to the overall match being clinched. Jace Crawford (Lovington, NM/Lovington HS) put up a good fight against Jasdeep Paintal, losing 6-2 and 6-1.

In doubles Vega and Joaquin Delpino (Villa Maria, Argentina) paired up, playing really well as they left their match unfinished 4-4. Mere and Dallman battled yet again in their doubles match before being defeated 6-2.
