Strong Start for Women's Tennis; Men Fall Short in Both Matches

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 SILVER CITY, NM – Both Men's and Women's Tennis opened up their championship season today, playing in sunny Arizona against Ottawa University Arizona and Arizona Christian University.

"The WNMU women's tennis team took care of business. The performance of each individual Lady Mustang was the highlight of the day on the women's side. They did not drop a match all day long. The ladies won 22 of 23 sets completed" said Head Coach Alex Hunt.

Against OUAZ the women won the match 4-0. Every Mustang won at large. Kajsa Gedlitschka (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley HS) won her sets 6-2 and 6-1. Massiel Paredes (Lima, Peru/Pamer HS) looked stellar winning both of her sets 6-0 and 6-3.

 In Doubles Julia Tozzi (Limeira, Brazil/) and Camilia Gomez defeated Guilia Leali and Veronica Gallardo 6-1. Nicold Gonzales and Gedlitschka also put in the work defeating their opponents 6-0. 

"The men's team had two close, tough losses against some quality NAIA opponents today" explains Hunt

As for the men, the outcome wasn't the same. OUAZ defeated the men 4-2. Two of the Men doubles duos defeated their opponents. Johnathon Vega and Joaquin Delpino (Villa Maria, Argentina) just outplayed their opponent winning 7-6. Rodrigo Mere (Coatepeque, Guatamala/Colegio El Bosque) and Erik Dallman looked sharped winning 6-3.

Dallman was the sole Mustang to win his individual sets, defeating Dong Hyun Kim of the Spirit, 6-4 and 6-3.

Arizona Christian University
Every Lady Mustang won their sets, sweeping the Firestorm 7-0. As for the Men, they battled it out as ACU nudges the win 4-3.

Coach Hunt explains the play of the men saying "The match against Arizona Christian showed our strength at the top of our lineup as our No. 1 doubles line won their match along with the No. 1, 2, & 3 singles lines."

"We as a team are proud of this start to the Spring 2021 season and we are excited to keep this energy going tomorrow against Colorado Mesa" said Hunt.

Both Mustang teams will be playing again tomorrow in Surprise, AZ, against Colorado Mesa!
