Box Score Dallas, TX – The Western New Mexico University Volleyball game against the Dallas Baptist University Patriots on Friday night at the Burg Center in Dallas, Texas. WNMU fought hard against DBU but were defeated in three sets.
Bria Augustine (Bellflower, CA/Mayfair High School) led the team with 12 kills on 29 attempts while
Maggie Roe (Boulder City, NV/Boulder City High School) added on 6 kills on 18 attempts herself. Senior
Madelynn Culp (Vancouver, WA/Union High School) had 11 assists and 3 aces on the match. Freshman
Eliana Moultrie (El Paso, TX/Canutillo HS) is making a name for herself on the court having 7 digs within the three sets.
The Mustangs and Patriots kept the score close within the beginning portion of the first set. DBU found out what was working for the offense and took set one 24-14 in a home stretch. Unfortunately for the Mustangs, a service error would give the Patriots the winning set point.
In set two, both teams had their share of lead in a point-by-point scoring game, but DBU quickly left a hefty lead. After coming from a timeout, two aces by
Madelynn Culp (Vancouver, WA/Union High School) set the Mustangs back in the set with tied it 10-10. In the end, a few more serving errors would cost the Mustangs set two, giving DBU the win, 25-19.
In the final set, the Patriots came out swinging hard with a 9-2 run and continued building on their own momentum. Although WNMU tried to swing anywhere on the court, the team could just not get the ball down on the court which lead the Patriots to win 25-16.
The Western New Mexico Mustangs are out to compete against Texas Women's University for their final road game of the season. The match is set to start at 1:00pm MT on Saturday, November 6
th in Denton, Texas.
