Fort Smith, A.R. – The Western New Mexico University Volleyball team played a three-set match against LSC competitor, University of Arkansas-Fort Smith. The Lions fought head to head with the Mustangs and were able to defeat them 3-0.
Senior veteran
Bria Augustine (Bellflower, CA/Mayfair High School) had a great night offensively totaling 11 kills. Another senior player,
Megan Custer (El Paso, TX/Eastwood High School) put up some numbers this evening with 4 kills throughout the match. Freshman
Janey Cortez (El Paso, TX/East Lake HS) was able to place some cross court swings landing her 4 kills.
Senior
Madelynn Culp (Vancouver, WA/Union High School) lead the Mustang team in assists rounding up 12 followed by freshman
Hailey Hertzog (Phoenix, AZ/Chaparral High School) with 9 assists. Sophomore
Taliyah Balladares (Santa Fe, NM/Santa Fe High School) had 3 assists for the night.
For the Mustang defense, dig leader
Bria Augustine (Bellflower, CA/Mayfair High School) earned 9 digs followed by
Madelynn Culp (Vancouver, WA/Union High School) with 8 digs and
Taliyah Balladares (Santa Fe, NM/Santa Fe High School) with 7 digs.
Megan Custer (El Paso, TX/Eastwood High School) also assisted the Mustangs with 2 blocks for the match.
In set one, the Mustangs and the Lions fought head-to-head ending 22-25 with the Lions out on top. In set two, the Mustangs were unable to gain momentum and found themselves in a large hole falling to the Lions 14-25. In set three, the Mustangs were able to find their rhythm and held a few three-point leads, but unfortunately came short 23-25.

th, at 11:00 AM.
