Lady Mustangs Fall on Final Day

Lubbock, Tex – In their final game of the TAJ Hospitality Softball Kickoff the Lady Mustangs faced off with the home team, Lubbock Christian (3-4)

It was a quick top of the inning for Western, bringing the Chaps to the plate. What looked to be a quick half of the inning, turned into four runs for the home team. Jayln McClain (El Centro, CA) put a stop to the scoring run with a 1-2-3 strikeout.

Lubbock Christian made quick work of Western in the second, the threatened to score in the bottom half but an out at third base by Grisdey Paredes – Alvarez ended the inning.

In the bottom of the third, the Chaps capitalized on Western errors to add seven more runs on five hits with two left on base. With both teams scoreless in the fourth, Western's chance in the fifth fell short.

Lubbock Christian took home an 11-0 win.

Marina Garcia (Tucson, AZ/Desert View High School), Ariana Maldonado (Albuquerque, NM/Cibola), and Deidre Vega (Bayard, NM/Cobre) each recorded a hit. While Jayln McClain (El Centro, CA) started on the mound, Julia Vega (Tucson, AZ/University High School) would close out the last two innings allowing two hits, one run and one strikeout.

The Lady Mustangs will have another opportunity next weekend as they travel to St. George Utah for the 2019 Dixie State Softball Courtyard Classic.
