Kingsville, TX-- Western New Mexico visited Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday seeking their tenth win of the season.
Kingsville took the lead early on thanks to some hot outside shooting. The Mustangs would answer back in the second quarter, however, and would take the lead heading into halftime, 33-27.
The Mustangs would extend their lead in the second half to as much as 13. Kingsville made a strong run late, but clutch free throws by Western in the final seconds sealed the deal, 62-59.
Western was led by
Ciara Fields (El Paso, TX/El Dorado) with 15 points.
Cassandra Vickery (Tularosa, NM/Tularosa) had 14,
Sara Lopez (El Paso, Texas/Horizon High School) had 12, and Tatyanna McFarland had a double-double if 12 points and 16 rebounds.
With the win, Western moves up in the Lone Star Conference standings into qualifying position for postseason play with two games remaining. They host Tarleton St. and Texas A&M-Commerce next week.
