Leonard Leads Mustangs to Dominant Win in Hobbs

Hobbs, N.M.  – The Western New Mexico Men's Basketball team snapped their losing streak in dominant fashion, capturing their first win of the season on the road over University of the Southwest. Despite being outscored 41-40 in the second, WNMU led by 15 at the half and would not relinquish the lead earning a 91-77 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Going into the break, WNMU led by 15 to enter the second half up 51-36.
  • Not even half way through the second, Western had built nearly a 30 point lead, holding their opponent to just single digits.
  • As the time ticked down, USW would catch a spark in a last effort to close the gap.
  • USW outscored WNMU by one in the second half, but could not overcome the first half deficit.
UP NEXT:
After nearly a week on the road, the Mustangs will return to Silver City before kicking off conference play at UT – Permian Basin, Nov. 23 in Odessa. Tip-off is scheduled for a 4 p.m. (3 p.m. MST) start time.
