Silver City, N.M. – Western New Mexico hosted the Falcons of UT Permian Basin Saturday, in their first game under the lights. In the final event of homecoming festivities, the Mustangs capped off evening earning their first win of the season, 47-28 over UTPB.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- With the sun beating down, yet to set behind the mountains, the Mustangs took advantage winning the coin toss and attacking with the sun in the eyes of UTPB.
- The WNMU defense would come up big in the opening drive, forcing UTPB to punt.
- Credit CJ Beanes (El Paso, TX/Pebble Hills HS) with his first career TD on a blocked punt and recover, returned for 15-yards for a Mustang touchdown.
- Roosevelt Calhoun Jr. (Reno, NV/Hug HS) continued to fuel the defensive efforts forcing and recovering a fumble to regain possession in the following drive.
- DeAndre Williams (Tucson, AZ/Tucson Magnet) would follow up with a 26-yard rush to the end zone putting WNMU up 13-0 at just the 12:36 point.
- Just before the end of the quarter CJ Fowler (Mesa, AZ/Desert Ridge HS) found Reggie Colson III (Hollywood, FL/South Borward HS) from 24-yards out for the third WNMU touchdown in only one quarter of play.
- The second quarter was quieter than the first, but Izell Price (Detroit, MI/Westlake HS ) recovered a UTPB fumble.
- Going into the half, Western led 23-14.
- Ignacio Correa (Midland, TX/Midland) connected on a 27-yard field goal to put the team up 26-14 with 9:46 left to play in the third.
- Despite throwing an interception, James Lee (Bayard, NM/Cobre) would force and recover a UTPB fumble at the UTPB 11-yard line.
- Fowler found Elijah Jones (Gilbert, AZ/Campo Verde HS) on a 4-yard pass to cap off the possession and put Western up 32-21.
- Once again, Roosevelt Calhoun Jr. (Reno, NV/Hug HS) made a big defensive play intercepting a pass.
- Fowler once again found Reggie Colson III (Hollywood, FL/South Borward HS) in the end zone for a 21-yard touchdown.
- On one of his 19 carries of the game, Williams scored his second touchdown of the night for 11-yards for the final score of the game.

Saturday's win marks the first win for the Mustangs this season, and the first under Head Coach
