Turnovers Costly in Mustang Loss in San Angelo

San Angelo, Tex. – Mustang football came out firing in the first half, keeping the game close and threatening to score coming out of the break. The Rams defense however proved to be too strong, forcing WNMU turnovers on their way to a 31-14 win.

Oly Taase – 19 carries | 61-yards | 1 TD
Reggie Colson III (Hollywood, FL/South Borward HS) – 5 receptions | 145-yards | 1 TD
Roosevelt Calhoun Jr. (Reno, NV/Hug HS) – 16 total tackles | 2 TFL | 1 forced fumble

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Mustangs were forced to punt in their opening drive, leading to an Angelo State touchdown midway through the game.
  • Capping off an 11-play, 85-yard drive was CJ Fowler (Mesa, AZ/Desert Ridge HS) finding Reggie Colson III (Hollywood, FL/South Borward HS) on a 35-yard pass to put the Mustangs on the board.
  • Going into the second quarter, Fowler found Colson again for a 76-yard touchdown giving the WNMU the 14-7 lead.
  • The lead was short lived, as ASU answered back with a 68-yard touchdown of their own.
  • WNMU missed an opportunity to retake the lead, missing a 32-yard field goal.
  • ASU would connect on the same field goal attempt with just under a minute left, to go into the half with a 17-14 lead.
  • Coming out of the break, WNMU forced the home team to punt in the opening drive.
  • In scoring position, the LSC leading defense prevailed holding off the WNMU offense to force a turnover on downs.
  • Roosevelt Calhoun Jr. (Reno, NV/Hug HS) came up big in the following ASU possession, with a forced fumble making it his second consecutive game with that stat.
  • ASU would quickly regain possession intercepting a WNMU pass.
  • ASU went on to score in the fourth quarter, to take a 31-14 win to remain flawless at home.
