Hot Shooting Early Not Enough For The Mustangs On The Road

Stephenville, TX-- The Western New Mexico Mustangs entered Saturday looking for another Lone Star Conference road win against the Texans of Tarleton St. University, after winning a close overtime game on the road Thursday. .


Western came out hot, opening the game on a 10-0 run over the host Texans. Tarleton would use a solid zone defense to slow the Mustang offense, however, and then made a run of their own to finish the first half with a small lead, 33-30.


The Texans continued their run to open the second half and quickly extended their lead to double figures. Western was unable to overcome that hot second half start by Tarleton, and would eventually fall by a score of 69-59.


Leston Gordon (Tunapuna, Trinidad and Tobago/Tunapuna Government Secondary) led a well-rounded offensive effort for the Mustangs by scoring 18 points while pulling down 11 rebounds for the double-double.


Western will be back on the court on January 31st when they host The University of Texas-Permian Basin in another conference game.
