Mustangs Tally a Couple Wins Against Division I Grand Canyon

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Zachary Grabovic (South Bank, Australia/St. Kevin's College) had himself quite the day as he not only picked up a win in doubles, but also added a singles victory as the Western New Mexico University men's tennis team battled Division I Grand Canyon before to Lopes claimed the 6-1 win on Sunday.

In doubles, Grabovic teamed with Niko Barr and the duo pulled out a tough tiebreaking win at No. 3, 7-6 (5). With it being Division I scoring, you have to win two out of three doubles matches to take the point and Grand Canyon came back to win the other two for the point. Liam Fraboulet (Lycée Kerraoul, Paimpol, France/Lycée Kerraoul)/David Valles posted three games before falling 3-6 at No. 2. Vladimir Gnilozubov (Kazakhstan, Astana/Kazakhstan)/Pablo Santibanez (Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico/CETYS Universidad) battled at the top flight before a 1-6 setback.

In singles, Grabovic took an opening set win in a tiebreaker, 7-6, and after falling in the second set, 2-6, he roared back in the third set in the super tiebreaker coasting to the 10-2 victory at No. 5. Santibanez collected seven games in his match at No. 2 before falling 3-6, 4-6. Barr at No. 3 and Valles at No. 4 fell by the same scores of 2-6, 1-6.
