Dominant Second Half Leads to Blowout Win For Mustangs

Odessa, TX-- The Mustangs went back on the road and came away with a big win against Lone Star Conference foe UT-Permian Basin on Saturday. Four players would score in double figures for the Mustangs, including Sara Lopez (El Paso, Texas/Horizon High School) who lead all scorers with 16 points. Ciara Fields (El Paso, TX/El Dorado) added 14, Paulina Rodriguez (Chihuahua, Mexico/Montverde Academy ) added 13 points and 8 rebounds, and Tatyanna McFarland (Riverside, California/Valley View High School) had 10 points and 9 rebounds to lead the Mustangs.

After a tightly contested first two quarters the Mustangs trailed the Falcons by three, 27-24. The second half would be a different story, however, as Western smothered UTPB defensively to outscore the host team 15-8 and 22-6 in the third and fourth quarters, respectively, for a final score of 61-41.

Western improves to 3-3 overall, 1-1 in conference play. They will be back in action December 14th and 16th at home against Arizona Christian and Embry Riddle (AZ).
