Men's Basketball to Face Northern New Mexico in Non-Conference Matchup

Silver City, N.M—After an exciting road win over Texas A&M- International, the Mustangs are now 3-1 on the season. They welcome Northern New Mexico in a non-conference matchup Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. on Drag's Court.

Not only did last weekend's win give the Mustangs their third win on the season, senior Willie McCray (Clovis, NM/Clovis/Westwind Prep Academy) also surpassed the 1,000 career points with a 21-point performance. Jon- Reese Woodson added 15 points, while CJ Vanbeekum (Phoenix, AZ/Paradise) and Eddie Giron (Monterrey, Mexico/Harmony Science Academy) rounded it out for the Mustangs in double-figures, each with 11 points.

The last time these two teams met was back in November 2015. It took four overtime periods before the Eagles took home a 108-107 victory over the Mustangs.

The Mustangs have averaged 73.0 points per game to their opponents 69.3 on a .461 field goal percentage and .309 beyond the arc. McCray leads all scorers with 65 points for an average of 16.3 per game in four games played. Jon-Reese Woodson (Corpus Christi, TX/Carroll) and Leston Gordon (Tunapuna, Trinidad and Tobago/Tunapuna Government Secondary) each average around five rebounds per game. Woodson also ranks second on the team in points per game with 12.8.
