DENTON, Texas – Senior Jordan Gutierrez (Albuquerque, NM/Valley ) went for 17 points, while sophomore Megan Looney (Phoenix, AZ/Apache Junction ) posted her second straight double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds Thursday night. Despite the strong numbers, Texas Woman's used a 47-point first half on their way to taking the 75-46 Lone Star Conference victory over the Western New Mexico University women's basketball team.

Gutierrez added eight rebounds, an assist and three steals in 37 minutes. Looney went 6-9 from the field, along with a block in 32 minutes. WNMU (4-9, 0-6 LSC) tallied double-digit points in all four quarters, ending the game strong by outscoring TWU (10-3, 3-2 LSC) 16-10 in the fourth frame.

Not even three minutes into the contest, the Pioneers were already out to a 10-0 lead. Junior Jade Botelho (Honolulu, HI/Iolani ) got the Lady Mustangs on the board at the 7:11 mark with a jumper to snap the 10-0 start. The lead was at 17-2 at one point for Texas Woman's before WNMU trimmed two points off the deficit to trail 23-10 through the first 10 minutes.

Looney cashed in an assist by senior Kenzie Rinehart (Deming, NM/Deming ) to pull the Lady Mustangs to within 11 two minutes into the second quarter when the Pioneers took charge from that point on taking a 47-20 lead into halftime.

Gutierrez hit on two at the foul line near the midway point of the third quarter to get to within 23, just to watch TWU continue their hot shooting moving to a 65-30 lead heading to the fourth quarter.

WNMU had a strong final 10 minutes, with Gutierrez accounting for two foul shots and junior Keshaun Clark (Avondale, AZ/Agua Fria) with a jumper in the paint a minute in. A 6-0 run near the midway point of the quarter was started by a pair of Looney free throws, Gutierrez and Botelho added a pair of jumpers to cap the run.

Looney had the Lady Mustangs as close as they could get the rest of the way with a jumper at the 1:14 mark to leave the deficit at 27.

Kenesha Saygo led the Pioneers with 16 points, while grabbing eight rebounds. Grace Mitchell tallied 10 points.

TWU held big advantages in points off turnovers (30-9) and points in the paint (46-18). WNMU tallied the only two fastbreak points. WNMU made just 16-57 (28) from the field, 0-13 from three and 14-19 (74) at the foul line. TWU, powered by a 46 percent opening half made 29-72 (40) for the game, 5-17 (29) from three and 12-18 (67) at the free throw line.

The Lady Mustangs will return home next Thursday, Jan. 12 when they will face Midwestern State beginning at 5:30 p.m. inside Drag's Court.
