Box Score 2 AZTEC, N.M. – With the games having to be moved to Aztec due to field conditions of Aspen Field, the Western New Mexico University softball team rallied from a 3-0 loss to Fort Lewis College in the first game to take game two 10-7 for a split Saturday in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
In the opener, WNMU (20-25, 16-14 RMAC) was able to generate six hits, but couldn't scratch across any runners against Victoria Johnson.
FLC (13-27, 10-17 RMAC) scored a run in the first and two more in the third. The Lady Mustangs threatened in every inning but the seventh, getting at least a runner on in each of the first six innings. One of the best chances came in the third when WNMU loaded the bases with two outs before a strikeout ended the inning.

Alicia Enriquez (Gilbert, AZ/Mesquite) out of the nine spot going 2-2 to lead the way. Tehenia Telliano powered the Skyhawks with two hits and two RBI.
Redshirt junior
Domi Shone (Gold Canyon, AZ/Mesquite) went the first five innings for WNMU to end up with the loss (12-11) as she allowed the three earned runs. Freshman
Tiana Salazar (Peoria, AZ/Peoria) went the final one inning and allowed just a hit. Johnson tossed the complete game win (8-8) for the Skyhawks, recording six strikeouts in the victory.
In game two, the offenses broke out for both teams. WNMU broke through first with a big third inning. Junior

Thailyza Ramirez (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad) cleared the bases with a three-run homer to right-center for the 5-0 lead.
FLC didn't go away getting four back in their half of the fourth inning leaving the lead at just one, 5-4.
WNMU added insurance in the fifth and sixth innings and as it turned out, they would need the extra runs. In the fifth,
Carolyn Castillo (Silver City, NM/Silver City) drilled her first collegiate home run with a two-run shot that also brought in Ramirez for the 7-4 advantage.
In the sixth,

The Skyhawks refused to go away, plating three runs in the seventh before a strikeout ended the game.
The teams combined for 26 hits with WNMU holding the 15-11 edge. Nine Lady Mustangs tallied a hit paced by a three-hit game by leadoff hitter
Krystal Castillo (Silver City, NM/Silver City). Ramirez and
Lacy Granger (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad) each drove in three runs. Missy Fundora and Nikki Klepfer led the Skyhawks with two-hit games. Angelique Elemen and Gianna Melaragno drove in two runs each.
In the circle, senior
MaryJo Granger (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad) worked the first 3.2 innings giving up four earned runs. Salazar came on in relief to get the win (7-4) giving up just three runs, two earned in the final 3.1 innings. Johnson started the second game as well for FLC and ended up with the loss (8-9) giving up four earned runs in 4.1 innings.
The two teams will wrap up their four-game series Sunday morning with another doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.
