No. 28 Men’s Tennis Sweeps Cougars for Seventh Consecutive RMAC Regular Season Title

SILVER CITY, N.M. –
The No. 28 Western New Mexico University men's tennis team made sure to leave a strong imprint in their final run through the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular season slate posting an 9-0 win over Colorado Christian Saturday to secure their seventh straight RMAC regular season crown.

WNMU (13-8, 4-0 RMAC) dropped only two points in their four games in going undefeated. They will now be the top seed in the RMAC Tournament that will take place Apr. 22-23 in Pueblo, Colo. All the teams in the RMAC this year played one less school with Montana State-Billings having to cut their tennis program after last year.

The Mustangs cruised in doubles jumping out to the 3-0 lead. Junior Jean-Laurent Pageault (Perrigny, France/Academi des Hauts de Nimes)/freshman Liam Fraboulet (Lycee Kerraoul, Paimpol, France) had the easiest time in their match at No. 2 posting the 8-0 win. Sophomore Pablo Santibanez (Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico/CETYS Universidad)/freshman Blayze O'Keefe (Las Vegas, NV) nearly won by the same result before grabbing the 8-2 win. Redshirt sophomore Tristan Da Lio (Casablanca/Academie des Hauts de Nimes)/sophomore Vladimir Gnilozubov (Kazakhstan, Astana/Kazakhstan) had a fight on their hands at the top flight, but then ceased control with the 8-5 win.

In singles, each won in straight sets. O'Keefe rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6. Da Lio at No. 2 and Santibanez at No. 5 lost just one game in each of their matches coming away with 6-1, 6-0 victories. Pageault at the top flight and Fraboulet at No. 4 dropped just two games each with Pageault winning, 6-2, 6-0 and Fraboulet, 6-1, 6-1. Gnilozubov posted the 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 to complete the sweep.

Although it was senior day for three of the Lady Mustangs, the men's team didn't have any seniors this season.

Before WNMU heads to Pueblo for the RMAC Tournament, they will face Division I New Mexico State for the second time this season on Apr. 16 in Las Cruces.
