SILVER CITY, N.M. – Pablo Santibanez and Annica Betz are set to join the Western New Mexico University tennis programs this coming spring as announced by Head Coach
Yair Banuelos.
"I am very excited to bring two more players for the coming spring, I could not be happier with these two new players," Banuelos said. "Pablo is extremely committed, a hardworking player, and a competitive guy. I am confident that he will adjust really fast to our team and will contribute in different aspects to our program. He is the aggressive "big hitter" type of player who never gives up at any time. He won't be easy to defeat and I think he will be a tough competitor for us."
Santibanez, from Hermosillo, Sonora in Mexico, played in a couple of tournaments during his time there. He collected state and regional championships, was a National Champion Grade 3 in 14 and under and again for the 16 and under. He was a finalist at the 18 and under Maureen Connolly Memorial and placed fifth at the Western States tournament in 2011.
Betz, from Celle, Germany, attended Kaiserin Auguste Viktoria Gymnasium. She played for the club team, VfL Westercelle helping earn such honors as team reaching fourth in league during the 2013 summer, reached highest in league during the winter season in 2014.
"For the women, Annica is a brilliant tennis player. She is a solid baseline player with great volleys and an excellent serve," Banuelos said. "I believe that Annica is going to help our women's team tremendously as she is familiar with team competitions. Her hard working ethic and commitment will be a great asset."
