Box Score SPEARFISH, S.D. – Despite a game-and season-high 23 points from junior forward
Marcos Castrillo (San Francisco, CA/Pinole Valley), it wasn't enough Friday night as the Black Hills State University Yellow Jackets came away with the 75-60 victory over the Western New Mexico University men's basketball team in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
"We ran out of gas in the second half," first-year head coach
Jeff Law said. "We played hard, just not well enough to win a tough, grind out game."
WNMU (1-13, 1-10 RMAC) held an early four-point lead just over four minutes in on a jumper by senior center
Brelan Berry (Chandler, AZ/Basha High School) for the 10-6 advantage. An 11-0 run followed for BHSU (6-8, 4-6 RMAC) to give them a 17-10 lead at the 12:39 mark.
Castrillo helped trigger a 9-2 run by himself for the Mustangs to help them race back to tie the game, as he connected on three jumpers around a three-pointer to pull WNMU back to a 19-all tie near the midway point of the half.
The Yellow Jackets pushed back in front by six a couple of times before the Mustangs would fight back to tie the game for the seventh time in the half on a jumper by sophomore guard
Adam Kesler (Silver City, NM/Silver) to send the game into halftime all square at 31.
BHSU came out of the gates ready in the second half sprinting out to a 7-0 run and would hold the lead the rest of the way despite several attempts by the Mustangs to overtake the Yellow Jackets.

Steven Loucks (Yuma, AZ/Cibola) cut the deficit back to five at 59-54 with a jumper at the 5:12 mark. That would be as close as the Mustangs would get with BHSU closing the game on a 16-6 run to take the 75-60 victory.
