WNMU tennis did not start the season off good as they faced the big and mighty University of New Mexico. The Mustangs were swept by the Lobos, 7-0.
Henning Thrien (Gelsenkirchen, Germany, Carl Friedrick Gaus Gymnasium, Hope International University) put up the best battle in singles, going 7-5 and 6-2 but falling in the end. In doubles action with his partner
Yair Banuelos (Mexico City, Mexico, Universidal del Valle de Mexico, Riverside Community College), the duo dropped the match, 8-2.
“Our intensity started out extremely well in two of our three doubles, winning the first game of the eight-game pro-set. As time went on, it became obvious that UNM had several matches under their belt already this season, and this was the Mustangs first match of the season,” says head coach Erik Burton.
The men hope to redeem themselves tomorrow against CSU-Pueblo in Albuquerque at 10:00 a.m.
