The men's squad placed 22nd out of 25 teams at the University of California – Riverside Cross Country Invitational on Saturday. The women finished 10th in the 5K invitational for the second week in a row.
An impressive showing by junior transfer
Flor Luna (El Paso, TX, Montwood High School, El Paso Community College) was demonstrated in California. Luna placed 27th out of 131 competitors with a time of 19:10. Sophomore
Nicole Luna (Pueblo of Laguna, NM, Laguna-Acoma High School) generated a time of 21:09, good for 91st. The last three Mustangs to finish the race were
Sheilah Koskey (Eldoret, Kenya, Moi Forces Academy),
Sarah Hall (Florence, AZ, Florence High School, Glendale Community College), and
Samantha Lopez (Albuquerque, NM, Del Norte High School, Lamar Community College), respectively.
Timo Kilp (Kose Harju, Estonia, Audentes Sports School) crossed the finish line first for the Mustang men for the second week in a row. He posted a time of 26:09 in the 8K race. He placed 108th out of 322 runners. Next in for the men's squad was sophomore
Dustin Walthall (Smith Lake, NM, Thoreau High School), who posted a time of 26:56 and placed 170th.
Michael Montoya (Albuquerque, NM, Manzano High School) finished 219th in the race, recording a time of 27:38. Lone senior
Matt Snay (Kingman, AZ, Kingman High School, Mohave Community College) finished the 8K about a minute behind Montonya, good for 264th. Freshmen
Zach Enriguez (Hobbs, NM, Hobbs High School) and
Anthony Martinez (Anthony, NM, Gadsden High School) were the last two Mustangs to cross the finish line.
The Mustang runners are back in action in two weeks at another sea-level event at the Arizona State University Cross Country Invite.
