Men's Tennis Wins RMAC Title

Junior Yair Banuelos
The WNMU men's tennis team went a perfect 7-0 in conference play this season with Saturday's 9-0 sweep over Metro State. They clinched the regular season RMAC tennis title and head into the RMAC tournament with huge momentum.

"The men deserve to be in the spotlight,” says head coach Erik Burton. “They have had a long and tough season and continue to impress their opponents with strong match play.” The won 52 of 54 RMAC matches over the last two weekends.

Metro State forfeited No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles due to injuries, giving the Mustangs two quick points. The regular season champions then rallied at the No. 1 and No.2 doubles spots with an 8-6 and 8-1 win respectively.

At No. 1 singles, Yair Banuelos (Mexico City, Mexico, Universidal del Valle de Mexico, Riverside Community College) did not know he was in for a marathon. He won the first set easily, 6-1, and then dropped the second set, 6-7 (7-9). Faced with a tiebreaker, Banuelos finally won, 16-14.
