The Mustangs had an uphill battle Wednesday night at Northern Arizona, but they looked very promising in the 96-86 exhibition loss. Overall, the statistics were relatively even. The difference maker, in favor of the Lumberjacks, was free throw opportunities. NAU went to the line 13 more times than WNMU and capitalized on each of those 13 extra chances.
TJ Riley (Tyler, TX, Chapel Hill High School, Lamar University) led all scorers with 26 points after two early fouls and 36 minutes of play. He went 5 for 8 from the arc and produced four assists. Overall, WNMU shot 52 percent from the three-point line (13-25). NAU was limited to just 33.3 percent (6-18).
Andy Sohlich (Battle Creek, MI, St. Phillip Catholic Central High School, Western Texas Community College; Eldon Academy Prep) and
Brelan Berry (Chandler, AZ, Basha High School) each chipped in with 12 points. Berry played only 14 minutes but was 6 for 7 from the floor. He also snagged five rebounds.
Juan Suarez (Nogales, AZ, Nogales High School) handled the pressure of point guard quite well. He recorded nine points while contributing nine assists and seven steals.
For the Lumberjacks, Cameron Jones and Gabe Rogers tallied 21 points. Three others had double figure scoring performances.
