SILVER CITY, N.M. — Following a pair of outstanding performances over Thanksgiving week, Western New Mexico University men's basketball standout Andre Harris (Mesa, AZ/Hillcrest Prep) has been named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week. The junior forward delivered two highly efficient outings against Colorado Christian and New Mexico Highlands, showcasing his consistency, poise, and scoring versatility.
Harris opened the week with a commanding effort in the Mustangs' victory against Colorado Christian. He poured in 21 points, attacking efficiently from the field and showing confidence at the line with a 5-for-7 performance. Harris also provided much-needed strength on the glass, pulling down 8 rebounds to help keep WNMU competitive throughout the contest. His scoring output and second-chance efforts set the tone for the Mustangs' offense and highlighted his growing leadership on the court.
He carried that momentum directly into the Mustangs' next game against New Mexico Highlands, in which they would again come out victorious. Harris delivered a complete effort, finishing with 18 points while demonstrating exceptional composure at the stripe, going 8-for-10 on free throws. Matching his Colorado Christian performance, he added another 8 rebounds, further establishing himself as one of the team's most reliable two-way contributors this season.
Across the two-game stretch, Harris averaged 19.5 points and 8 rebounds per contest while shooting a combined 72% from the free-throw line—numbers that not only energized the Mustang offense but also caught the attention of coaches and voters across the Lone Star Conference.
WNMU Men's Basketball Head Coach, Mark Bunker, praised Harris's growth and impact, noting that "his consistency and physical presence have been critical to the team's progress early in the season." Harris's honor marks a significant milestone, reflecting both his individual hard work and the positive direction of the program.
With conference play about to begin, Harris's standout week provides strong momentum for the Mustangs as they look to continue building on their competitive start.
Congratulations to Andre Harris (Mesa, AZ/Hillcrest Prep) on earning LSC Offensive Player of the Week - an accolade well deserved after a dominant holiday week on the hardwood.
