LAKEWOOD, CO. — Western N.M. (4-1, 0-0 Lone Star) secured a 85-79 victory over Colorado Christian (2-3, 0-0 RMAC) at the CCU Event Center on Wednesday. The Mustangs capitalized on 19 points from turnovers to edge past Colorado Christian in a tightly contested matchup featuring 11 ties and 17 lead changes.
The opening half saw Western New Mexico rally from a slow start to narrow the gap against Colorado Christian. After falling behind 16–4, Western New Mexico responded with a series of fast breaks and layups, including a crucial dunk by
Keylon Dorsey (Houston, TX/Eisenhower High School) at 6:26, trimming the deficit to two. The Mustangs continued to apply pressure, with
Carson Kelly (Chandler, AZ/Chandler High School) sinking two free throws at 1:03 to bring them within one point. Despite a layup from
Tanner Poeschl (Fountain Hills, AZ/Skyline High School) at 0:31, Western New Mexico ended the half trailing 39–38.
Western New Mexico surged ahead in the second half with a strong performance by
Andre Harris (Mesa, AZ/Hillcrest Prep), who scored multiple jumpers to help secure an early lead.
Cortaviaus Seales (Rock Island, IL/North Scott High School) contributed significantly with crucial points in the paint, maintaining momentum for the visitors. Despite Colo. Christian's efforts to keep pace, Western New Mexico capitalized on their scoring opportunities and extended their lead with key free throws by Kelly in the final moments. The half concluded with the Mustangs outscoring Colorado Christian 47–40, ending the game with an 85–79 victory.
Seales led the Mustangs with 24 points, converting 10 of 13 field goal attempts, and added four assists. Harris contributed 21 points, going 8 for 16 from the field, and collected eight rebounds. Kelly added 13 points, making all six free throw attempts, and recorded five assists. Dorsey posted nine points and grabbed three rebounds.
In their next game, Western New Mexico will face New Mexico Highlands University on Friday, Nov. 27. The matchup is set to take place in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
