Box Score SAN ANTONIO, TX — Western New Mexico University (5-2, 0-1 Lone Star) fell to St. Mary's University (6-0, 1-0 Lone Star) by a final score of 80-76 on Thursday night at Bill Greehey Arena. The Mustangs led by seven points at halftime, but the Rattlers surged in the second half to secure the victory.
Western New Mexico opened the first half with a solid start, as
Cortaviaus Seales (Rock Island, IL/North Scott High School) scored the initial points with a tip-in at 19:25 and followed with a layup, quickly giving the visitors a 4-0 lead. They maintained their edge through defensive efforts, with
Andre Harris (Mesa, AZ/Hillcrest Prep) contributing significantly by recording multiple rebounds and a block.
The Mustangs capitalized late in the half, highlighted by a 3-pointer from
Carson Kelly (Chandler, AZ/Chandler High School) with just four seconds remaining, extending their lead. The half concluded with Western New Mexico leading St. Mary's 41-34.
Western New Mexico struggled to maintain momentum in the second half despite several key plays.
Keylon Dorsey (Houston, TX/Eisenhower High School) hit a 3-pointer at 18:33, assisted by Kelly, to briefly regain the lead. However, St. Mary's responded with a series of fast-break points, creating a challenging deficit for Western New Mexico.
In the final minute, Seales secured a layup and a free throw to narrow the gap to 76–73. Despite a late 3-pointer by Dorsey, the Mustangs fell short, with the game ending 80–76 in favor of St. Mary's. The game concluded with the Mustangs trailing by four points.
Seales led the team with 20 points, converting 7 of 14 field goals and 6 of 8 free throws, while also collecting six rebounds and three steals. Kelly added 13 points, making 2 of 5 from beyond the arc and 5 of 7 free throws, and recorded five assists. Dorsey contributed 13 points, hitting 3 of 9 from beyond the arc, and tallied two steals. Harris posted 13 points, secured eight rebounds, and registered two blocks before fouling out.
In their next game, the Mustangs will travel to face St. Edward's on Saturday, Dec. 6. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 p.m. MT at St. Edwards Recreation and Athletic Center in Austin, Texas.
