The Mustangs dominated Friday in RMAC West competition. WNMU (7-6 overall, 5-3 RMAC) defeated CSU-Pueblo (5-10 overall, 1-7 RMAC) in a quick three sets (25-17, 25-20, 25-18).

In a match that lasted only one hour and 10 minutes, senior Natali Murdock (Phoenix, AZ, Pinnacle High School) led all hitters with 12 kills off of 30 lightning swings and only three errors. Middles Heather Rux (Cottonwood, AZ, Mingus Union High School) and Jordan Johnston (Boise, ID, Centennial High School) had nearly identical hitting numbers with six kills and one error. Johnston also contributed two solo blocks and three block assists.

Running circles around the court, Alyssa Meihack (Fallon, NV, Churchill County High School) set a great game with 28 assists.

In the first set, WNMU got off to a hot start with back-to-back ThunderWolf attacking errors. This allowed the Mustangs to jump out to a 5-2 lead. WNMU never looked back. Rux capped off the set with a quick one down the middle. The Mustangs hit .478.

WNMU looked a little shaky with their three service errors to start off the second set. Pueblo had the 12-8 advantage, but like the first, back-to-back attacking errors gave WNMU the momentum. Pueblo was forced to call a timeout. The timeout didn't help as the ThunderWolves continued to make hitting errors. As a team, they hit only .051 in the set. WNMU walked into intermission ahead, 2-0.

WNMU never lost the lead in the third set. Rux, once again, shut down the ThunderWolves on set point to take the “V”.

For Pueblo, Tamia Herholz and Gina Abbott had nine kills. Herholz also had 11 digs. Tasha Greer handled the setting duties to finish with 29 assists.

The Mustangs has some trouble handling serves despite the victory. They committed three service reception errors and seven service errors.
