Two Ways To Save Money This Weekend And Give Back

The High Desert Humane Society and the WNMU Mustangs have teamed up for the fourth year in a row. All fans who help support the animal shelter through donations at the volleyball games and football game this weekend will receive free admission.  Fans attending the football game will also have the opportunity to learn about adopting a cat or dog. WNMU will also show their support in the fight against breast cancer.  All fans wearing pink will receive $2.00 off their football admission and $1.00 off their volleyball admission.

About the High Desert Humane Society Donations:

The building for the High Desert Humane Society, formerly The Grant County Humane Society, was completed in 1998. Some 3,000 square feet are devoted to living space for all the animals. Separate quarters are provided for adoptable dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, stray animals, and quarantined animals. Outside dog runs are attached as is an outside kitty play yard. Also on the property are a pet crematorium and a memorial garden.

The principal objectives of the High Desert Humane Society are to find homes for adoptable dogs and cats housed and cared for in the shelter and to reduce the over population of homeless or unwanted animals through spay/neuter assistance being.

About the Breast Cancer Awareness Event:
With the month of October designated as National Breast Cancer Awareness month, head volleyball coach Jim Callender and the Western New Mexico University volleyball team will participate in the 3rd Annual Dig for the Cure campaign, which supports the Central New Mexico Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation.

The Mustangs have designated their two matches this weekend as the team's “Dig for the Cure” weekend. Individual sponsors pledge money per dig earned by the Mustangs over the two matches or can make a flat donation for the cause. The money raised by the team will go directly to the Central New Mexico Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation.

In addition to the pledges, pink “Dig for the Cure” WNMU Volleyball t-shirts are also for sale. All proceeds of the t-shirts will also go to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. The cost of the t-shirts are $10.00.

People wishing to contribute monetary donations to the WNMU Dig for the Cure campaign can fill out a pledge sheet online or at a WNMU home volleyball match. You can also contact head coach Jim Callender at (575) 538-6218 or callenderj@wnmu.edu or Victoria Stimac at (575) 538-6214 or hueninkv@wnmu.edu.

The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation was established in 1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her sister, Susan G. Komen, who died from breast cancer at the age of 36. Today, the Foundation is an international organization with a network of more than 75,000 volunteers working through local affiliates and events like the Komen Race for the Cure® to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease. Together with its Affiliate Network, corporate partners and generous donors, the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation has raised more than $1.5 billion for the fight against breast cancer.
