The Mustangs suffered a heartbreaker on Homecoming. After WNMU gave up the ball for the fourth time with just over two minutes left in the game and the Mustangs ahead 10-7, Adams State was in great field position on the WNMU 28.  Two rushes later, the Grizzlies found the end zone for the winning touchdown. WNMU put a valiant effort into their final drive, but Adams State still stole the victory, 14-10.

Senior Kevin Breaker (Stockton, CA, Lincoln High School, Delta College) finished the day with 126 yards on 22 carries. Quarterback Chris Voller (Albuquerque, NM, Valley High School) was 12 for 25 for 88 yards. He also posted two interceptions – one in the final play of the game.

Defensively, Jacob Cross (Bakersfield, CA, Centennial High School, Bakersfield Junior College) led the Mustangs with six solo tackles and three assist tackles. He also recorded 1.5 tackles for a loss. Chris Sneed (Marshall, TX, Marshall High School, New Mexico State University) placed a couple hard hits (2 solo, 5 assists) on the Grizzlies. He notched 0.5 sacks, two tackles for a loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, one blocked field goal, and three quarterback hurries.

In the first quarter, neither team got off more than six plays or moved the chains more than once in each of their possessions. WNMU, however, posted two fumbles and lost one, but the score held at 0-0 heading into the second quarter.

Two more fumbles, one by each team, occurred in the first three minutes of the second. On Adam State's turnover at the ASC 25, WNMU's Niko Skawinski (San Diego, CA, Poway High School, San Diego Mesa College) tangled with Adam State's quarterback, Trevor Eggleston. Sneed then snatched up the ball to set up a WNMU field goal. Kameron Drawhorn (San Diego, CA, Fallbrook High School) put the ball straight through the uprights for a 29-yard field goal. WNMU was up 3-0.

Adams State quickly scored on the next drive to take their first lead of the game. On their longest drive, Adams State punched out five plays and 46 yards. Much of the drive was credited to Chris Jamison, who capped of the possession with a 36-yard rush for the touchdown.

That Adams State lead only lasted 2:11. Breaker went 70 yards on three rushes with Antoine Young (Oakland, CA, Encinal High School, Chabot College) scoring the touchdown on a 4-yard rush. WNMU was up, 10-7, heading into the halftime Homecoming festivities.

The third quarter was a see-saw battle with no apparent winner after the 15 minutes. Adams State and WNMU combined for seven punts. The most yardage either team posted on their turn with the ball was 28 yards.

Adams State looked to tie the game in the top of the fourth quarter, but Sneed got in the way once again. Attempting a 48-yard field goal, Adams State's David Van Voris was caught by surprise by Sneed. WNMU's Terron Sumpter, Jr. (Fallbrook, CA, Fallbrook High School) then picked up the loose ball on his own 42 and ran it 29 yards. The Mustang offense couldn't capitalize, though, and had to punt it away.

Trying to run the clock down, a poor handoff to WNMU's Mario Wren (Bessemer, AL, Bessemer City High School) with 2:10 left led to the Grizzly winning score. Voller made a solid attempt to march the Mustangs down the field in the last seconds, but the clock wasn't on WNMU's side.

Adam States Jamison finished with 111 yards rushing, and Eggleston threw for 125 yards (17-29-0).

Rocco DeLorenzo had 11 tackles in the victory.
