The WNMU Mustangs came up a few points short in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament championship match on Saturday morning against Metro State. The Roadrunners defeated the Mustangs, 5-2.

The Mustangs struggled at the No. 1 and 2 doubles positions as Sascha Ruckelshausen and Scott Bradley cruised to an 8-1 win over Kyle Lynch (Albuquerque, NM/New Mexico Military Institute High School) and Emmanuel Hecher (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Pitagoras), and Angelo Faustino and Georgie Perez won convincingly at No. 2, posting an 8-4 victory over Valu Fa (Suva, Fiji/Natabua High School) and Wilton Aktins. 

Luke Salazar (Albuquerque, NM/Valley High School) and Lavio Rueda did earn one point in doubles for the Mustangs with a win over Ryan Campbell and Sean Carlton, 8-3. 

Metro's Ruckelshausen and Faustino also won in straight sets in their No. 1 and 2 singles matches, putting the Roadrunners in front 4-1 after the top two singles matches were completed. WNMU's Atkins prevented the championship match-up from ending early. He defeated Scott Bradley in three sets after losing the first set 6-0 at No. 3 singles. 

Georgie Perez ended up clinching the win for Metro State at No. 4, winning 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4) over Fa. 

WNMU will now await the selection process for the NCAA Central Region Tournament. The regional tournament will be played on either May 7-8 or May 8-9.
