DALLAS, TX- On Friday, the western New Mexico Women's tennis team opened the Texas Wesleyan invite with a full slate of singles and doubles competition. 

Head Coach Jesus Baltazar highlighted the effort shown by the Mustangs throughout the opening day. 

"The biggest takeaway from today was the way everyone fought on the court. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone compete tomorrow and leaving it all out on the court." 

In singles, Eva Guta (Bucharest, Romania/Liceul Teoretic C.A. Rosetti (Romania)) battled through her opening singles match, falling 1-6, 6-2, 6-10, before responding with an 8-2 victory in her second match. 

Lina Mueller () also bounced back after dropping her opening match 3-6, 3-6, earning an 8-4 victory in her next match. 

Nikoletta Pytel (Warsaw, Poland/Cosinus Lódz (Poland)) opened her tournament with a strong 6-3, 5-7, 10-6 victory before falling 1-6, 0-1 by retirement. 

Josefina Bailetti (Pergamino, Buenos Aires, Argentina/Colegio Nuestra Señora del Huerto) battled in her opening singles match, falling 5-7, 2-6, before continuing her tournament play with a 5-8 result in the following round. 

In doubles, the Mustangs have two teams still competing in the main draw, with Eva Guta (Bucharest, Romania/Liceul Teoretic C.A. Rosetti (Romania)) and Josefina Bailetti (Pergamino, Buenos Aires, Argentina/Colegio Nuestra Señora del Huerto) earning a 6-2 victory to advance to the next round. Lina Mueller () and Nikoletta Pytel (Warsaw, Poland/Cosinus Lódz (Poland)) also advanced to the next round by walkover. 

All four Mustangs will return to competition Saturday in Dallas as the Texas Wesleyan Invite continues.
