Box Score 2 Phoenix, AZ – Women's tennis concludes their visit to Glendale, AZ with a double header win. Final score 6-1, 4-2.
The morning started with the Mustangs battling against Ottawa University Arizona, and a final score of 6-1.
The Mustangs started off the morning against Ottawa University with duo matches, with
Xaviera Melgar (Tacna, Peru/Alexander Von Humboldt School) and
Sofija Krstic (Knjazevac, Serbia/Gymnasium 9th May) teaming up for the first victory with a 6-2.
Josefina Bailetti (Pergamino, Buenos Aires, Argentina/Colegio Nuestra Señora del Huerto) and
Eva Guta (Bucharest, Romania/Liceul Teoretic C.A. Rosetti (Romania)) took the court next and finished their match with a 6-3 win.
Nikoletta Pytel (Warsaw, Poland/Cosinus Lódz (Poland)) and
Lucia Carmena (Alcala de Henares, Spain/Les Complutense Alcala de Henares) finished off the double matches with a third victory 6-2.
The Mustangs continued the momentum in the singles matches, with Krstic securing the first game with a 6-0, 6-2 win. Melgar was second to finish the match making a statement with a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Guta continued the momentum, also securing fourth point with a 6-2, 6-0 win. Pytel was fourth to finish the match but after two hard-fought rounds fell 0-6, 4-6. Bailetti was later able to pick up the momentum and concluded her match with a 6-3, 6-4 win. The final Mustang to finish was Carmena who after taking the battle to tie-breaker secured the final point for the Mustangs with a 6-1, 1-6, 10-5 win.
This concluded the morning for the Mustangs at Glendale with a final score of 6-1.
The afternoon saw equal prowess by the Mustangs as they faced off against Arizona Christian, taking the match with a 4-2 victory.
The match started with a duo made by Bailetti and Guta who took the first match with a 6-0 win. The second conclusion came from Pytel and Carmena, but they fell 4-6. The last pair on the court was Pytel and Carmena who went through two hard rounds, but fell 6-7, 5-7.
In the singles round, Guta was the first to finish the match securing the first point for the Mustangs with a 6-4, 6-1 win. Pytel kept up the momentum by finishing second and taking the match to a tiebreaker with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win. Bailetti followed suit and concluded her match with a 6-4, 6-1 win. Melgar was fifth to finish, taking the match to another tiebreaker but fell 6-1, 1-6, 6-0. The last Mustang to take the court was Krstic who also fought to a tiebreaker, but fell 7-5, 6-4, 5-4.
This concluded the afternoon, and the double header with the Mustangs taking the double header with a 6-1, 4-2 victory.
