SILVER CITY, NM — Western New Mexico University Athletics proudly hosted a Pink Out Night on Tuesday evening as the WNMU women's and men's basketball teams faced Sul Ross State University inside Drag's Court. The evening began with the WNMU women's basketball game at 5:00 p.m., followed by the men's contest at 7:00 p.m. As part of the Pink Out initiative, all cash ticket sales and fan donations from both games were dedicated to the Gila Regional Cancer Center. Representatives from Gila Regional Medical Center were present to receive the proceeds during a special halftime presentation.
In attendance for the donation presentation were:
- Robert Whitaker, Chief Executive Officer
- Ron Green, Chief Nursing Officer
- Linda Fischer, GRMC Auxiliary President
- Mike Torres, Cancer Center Manager
- Mary Young, Marketing Manager
WNMU Athletics worked to create a strong visual and community impact throughout the night. Fans were encouraged to participate in the Pink Out by wearing pink, and complimentary pink shirts were distributed to attendees. Both the women's and men's basketball teams took the court in pink uniforms, while WNMU Athletics staff also wore pink to show their support and solidarity.
The Pink Out Night reflects WNMU Athletics' continued commitment to community engagement and service beyond competition. By partnering with the Gila Regional Cancer Center, the university was able to support vital local healthcare services while uniting students, fans, athletes, and staff around a shared cause.
WNMU Athletics extends its sincere gratitude to all fans, donors, student-athletes, coaches, and staff who contributed to the success of the event, as well as to Gila Regional Medical Center for the important work they do in serving Grant County and the surrounding region.
