Box Score Las Cruces, N.M. — The Western New Mexico University women's tennis team opened the Spring portion of its schedule on Sunday afternoon against New Mexico State University at the NM Tennis Center. The Mustangs competed hard throughout the day. The WNMU Women's Tennis team faced strong competition on their trip to Las Cruces.
Nikoletta Pytel (Warsaw, Poland/Cosinus Lódz (Poland)) started off the match, but fell 0-6, 4-6.
Josefina Bailetti (Pergamino, Buenos Aires, Argentina/Colegio Nuestra Señora del Huerto) played second and showed strong resilience and endurance as her battle started off with 4-7, 5-7 tie which eventually resulted in Bialetti falling in the tiebreaker to a 10-12.
Lucia Carmena (Alcala de Henares, Spain/Les Complutense Alcala de Henares) took the court afterward but fell 0-6, 0-6.
Eva Guta (Bucharest, Romania/Liceul Teoretic C.A. Rosetti (Romania)) was fourth to take the court and fought hard, but her fall came with 0-6, 1-6.
Xaviera Melgar (Tacna, Peru/Alexander Von Humboldt School) was the finalist but fell 0-6, 0-6.
The Mustangs then teamed up to play for doubles, with Pytel and Bailetti teaming up, but fell eventually at 2-6. The second duo comprised of Carmena and Melgar, and after a hard-fought battle fell 2-6.
The Mustangs concluded their finals at Las Cruces on 0-7.
