Abilene, Texas – The Western New Mexico University women's tennis team opened play Friday at the Cowboy Classic, battling hard against strong regional competition.

Eva Guta (Bucharest, Romania) dropped her singles match 0-6, 1-6, before pairing in doubles where she and her partner Josefina Bailetti (Pergamino, Buenos Aires, Argentina) fell 1-6. Bailetti also competed in singles action, falling 2-6, 3-6, and in doubles play with Guta fell with a score of 1-6.

Despite the setbacks, the Mustangs gained valuable experience on the first day of competition and will look to bounce back tomorrow, as play continues throughout the weekend.
