Mustangs Wrap Up 2025 Season Against Angelo State

SILVER CITY, N.M. April 26, 2025 - The Western New Mexico women's tennis team wrapped up its 2025 season on Saturday morning, hosting Angelo State at the WNMU courts. The Mustangs battled but ultimately fell 7-0 to the Rambelles.

In doubles play, Ana Sofia Montero Villegas (Caracas, Venezuela/Colegio San Martin de Porres) and Caini Wang (New Taipei City, Taiwan/Taipei Municipal Nangang Vocational High School) teamed up at No. 1 but fell 6-1. At No. 2, Andreea Arnautu (Laval, Quebec, Canada/College Laval) and Lucia Carmena (Alcala de Henares, Spain/Cet Alcala) also came up short by a 6-1 score. The Mustangs forfeited the No. 3 doubles match, giving Angelo State the doubles point.

Order of finish: 2, 1, 3.

In singles, Arnautu led the way at No. 1 but dropped her match 6-1, 6-1. Montero Villegas fought through a tighter second set at No. 2 before falling 6-0, 6-2. Wang picked up a game at No. 3 but fell 6-1, 6-0. At No. 4, Carmena battled in both sets but was edged 6-2, 6-2. WNMU was forced to forfeit the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches.

Order of finish: 5, 6, 3, 2, 1, 4.

Saturday's match marked the end of the 2025 campaign for the Mustangs, a season filled with determination and fight as the program continues to build for the future.
