Mustangs Defeated by Lady Chaps

Silver City, NM - The Western New Mexico Mustangs Women's Basketball team carries on their 2024-2025 season in a match against the Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaps at Drag's Court in Silver City, NM. The WNMU Mustangs would fall to the Lady Chaps, 46-77. The Mustangs would fall below the Lady Chaps in their shooting era, averaging 33.3% (19-57), while the Lady Chaps were 54.2% (26-48). The Mustangs lost to the Lady Chaps in three-pointers, averaging 0.00% (0-7) versus 46.2% (12-26) for the Lady Chaps. The Mustangs battled hard with the Lady Chaps in free throws, with an average of 66.7% (8-12), while the Lady Chaps averaged higher with 76.5% (13-17) rising above the Mustangs.
 
Jaelyn Morrison (El Paso, TX/Hanks High School) would lead the Mustangs with a total of 11 point. Savannah Wilson (Humble, TX/Kingwood Park High School) played a defensive game, recording eight rebounds for the Mustangs. Kiana Ortiz (Tucson, AZ/Palo Verde High School) and Yvanna Villarreal (Las Cruces, NM/Organ Mountain High School) earned two assists each to help the team out. While Steph Da Silva (Melbourne, AUS/Loreta Mandeville Hall High School) had four steals from the Lady Chaps turnovers.
 
The Lady Chaps make the most of Western New Mexico's 14 turnovers, generating 10 points off those missteps and establishing a strong early lead. Western New Mexico fought hard with 14 second-chance points and two fast-break points.
 
The WNMU Mustangs will stay in Silver City, NM for a match-up against Midwestern State University on Saturday, February 8, 2025, to continue their season. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. MT. Tune in on FloCollege for the live stream.
