Silver City, NM - The Western New Mexico Mustangs Women's Basketball team continued their 2024-2025 season with a match against the Midwestern State University Mustangs at Drag's Court in Silver City, NM. In a thrilling last-minute victory, the WNMU Mustangs defeated the MSU Mustangs 52-50.
The WNMU Mustangs excelled in their shooting, averaging 46.0% (23-50), while the MSU Mustangs managed 31.3% (20-64). The WNMU Mustangs also outperformed in three-pointers, with an average of 44.4% (4-9) compared to MSU's 0.0% (0-11). In free throws, the MSU Mustangs had the edge with 62.5% (10-16) over WNMU's 33.3% (2-6).
Eliza Joynes (Adelaide, South Australia/Henley Sports Academy) led the WNMU Mustangs with 16 points and seven rebounds. Natalie Magallanes (Midland, TX/Midland Legacy High School) contributed seven assists, while Savannah Wilson (Humble, TX/Kingwood Park High School) had three steals from MSU's turnovers.
The MSU Mustangs capitalized on Western New Mexico's 25 turnovers, generating 21 points and establishing an early lead. Western New Mexico fought back with seven second-chance points and three fast-break points.
