Edmond, Oklahoma - The Western New Mexico Mustangs Women's Basketball team carries on their final away game in the 2024-2025 season in a match against the Oklahoma Christian Eagles in Edmond, Oklahoma at the Payne Athletic Center . The WNMU Mustangs would lose to the Eagles, 63-68. The Mustangs would fall below the Eagles in their shooting era, averaging 36.9% (24-65), while the Eagles were 41.1% (23-56). The Mustangs beat the Eagles in three-pointers, averaging 40.0% (6-15) versus 33.3% (5-15) for the Eagles. The Mustangs battled hard with the Eagles in free throws, with an average of 56.3% (9-16), while the Eagles averaged higher with 63.0% (17-27) rising above the Mustangs.
Alina Martin would lead the Mustangs with a total of 14 points.
Eliza Joynes (Adelaide, South Australia/Henley Sports Academy) and
Savannah Wilson (Humble, TX/Kingwood Park High School) played a defensive game with the most rebounds, recording six for the WNMU Mustangs.
Natalie Magallanes (Midland, TX/Midland Legacy High School) and
Yvanna Villarreal (Las Cruces, NM/Organ Mountain High School) earned two assists to help the team out. While
Eliza Joynes (Adelaide, South Australia/Henley Sports Academy) had two steals from the Eagles turnovers.
The Eagles make the most of Western New Mexico's 10 turnovers, generating 10 points off those missteps and establishing a strong early lead. Western New Mexico fought hard with 11 second-chance points and six fast-break points.
The WNMU Mustangs will travel back to Silver City, NM for a final match-up against Sul Ross on Thursday, February 27, 2025, to continue their season.
