Silver City, N.M. - The Western New Mexico Mustangs Women's Basketball team played the last game of their 2024-2025 season with a Senior Night match against the Sul Ross State Lobos. Western played a very strong game and would come away with a 73-61 win over the Lobos!
The WNMU Mustangs averaged 43.1% (28-65), while the Lobos averaged 25% (20-80). Western struggled from beyond the arc, averaging 21.4% (3-14), conversely Sul Ross averaged worse 16.7% (3-18). In free throws, the Mustangs were on top of things, averaging 93.3% (14-15), while the Lobos came away with only 78.3% (18-23) of their attempts.
Alina Martin led the WNMU Mustangs with 20 points(8-15) and seven rebounds. Western had four Mustangs in double figures this game, the remaining three are
Natalie Magallanes (Midland, TX/Midland Legacy High School) with 17,
Savannah Wilson (Humble, TX/Kingwood Park High School) with 10, and
Eliza Joynes (Adelaide, South Australia/Henley Sports Academy) with 10 as well.
Savannah Wilson (Humble, TX/Kingwood Park High School) led in rebounds with eleven. Western had an overall of 50 total rebounds and 53 points from the bench. Sul Ross finished the game off with 38 rebounds and only 17 bench points. The WNMU Mustangs will be heading into the offseason with an overall record of 3 wins, 22 losses.
