Buffs Give the Mustangs a Hard Time at Home

Silver City, NM - The Western New Mexico Mustangs Women's Basketball team continued their 2024-2025 season with a match against the West Texas A&M Buffaloes at Drag's Court in Silver City, NM. Western tried their best to the end but would eventually go on to lose 55-78.

    The WNMU Mustangs averaged 39.7% (23-58), while the Buffaloes averaged 42.9% (27-63). Western struggled from beyond the arc, averaging 16.7% (1-6), conversely West Texas averaged 41.7% (10-24). In free throws, the Mustangs had a rough day, only averaging 57.1% (8-14), while the Buffs came away with 77.8% (14-18) of their attempts.

    Eliza Joynes (Adelaide, South Australia/Henley Sports Academy) led the WNMU Mustangs with 16 points(8-15), five rebounds and two steals. Natalie Magallanes (Midland, TX/Midland Legacy High School) came in at a close second with 8 points(4-8) of her own. Savannah Wilson (Humble, TX/Kingwood Park High School) led in rebounds with seven.

    The West Texas A&M Buffs took advantage of Western New Mexico's 22 turnovers, generating 7 points and holding the lead for the entirety of the game. The Mustangs fought back with eight second-chance points.

    The WNMU Mustangs will be back on the road for a match-up against the Cameron University Aggies, February 20, 2025. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. MT. Tune in on FloCollege for the live stream.
