KINGSVILLE, Tex. — Texas A&M-Kingsville defeated Western New Mexico 64-13 at Javelina Stadium, with the visiting team scoring two rushing touchdowns in the loss. The Mustangs haven't defeated TAMUK since 2017 and are on a 7 game losing streak versus the Javelinas, a streak that continued with this game.
Western New Mexico began play by opting to kick off, as Texas A&M-Kingsville won the toss and elected to receive. The Mustangs struggled to contain the Javelina's offensive momentum, conceding multiple touchdowns in the first quarter. Despite a notable 22-yard pass from
Connor Ackerley (Tempe, Arizona/Corona Del Sol High School) to
Zay Savoie (Apache Junction, AZ/Red Mountain High School), the visiting team found themselves under consistent pressure, resulting in Ackerley being sacked three times. The first quarter ended with the Mustangs trailing 29-0.
Western New Mexico found momentum late in the second quarter with a determined drive, highlighted by Ackerley's 21-yard rush that set the stage for Savoie's 1-yard touchdown run at 1:57.

TAMUK Quarterback Jack Turner led the offensive charge with 373 passing yards and five touchdowns on 33-of-40 attempts. His primary target, Kevin Holmes Jr., accumulated 101 receiving yards and scored one touchdown on eight receptions. Ivan Thomas contributed significantly with two touchdown catches, totaling 52 yards on four receptions. On the ground, Lawrence Starks added a rushing touchdown, amassing 67 yards on 11 carries and catching two passes for 21 yards. Defensively, Doug Brooks made an impact with six tackles, including 1.5 sacks and a blocked kick.
The Mustangs have not managed to defeat TAMUK since 2017, which extends their losing streak against the Javelinas to seven games. The Mustangs hold a record of 2-8 overall and 1-7 in conference play. The Javelinas stand at 4-6 overall and 3-5 in conference competition.
