Las Cruces, NM - The second day of the Aggie Invite at New Mexico State showed a strong performance from the Mustangs as the tennis team fought through a competitive outing this weekend, showing determination and strong teamwork across singles and doubles play.
Singles play brought several standout moments. Josefina Bailetti (Pergamino, Buenos Aires, Argentina/Colegio Nuestra Señora del Huerto) secured a strong win 6–2, 6–4. Xaviera Melgar (Tacna, Peru/Alexander Von Humboldt School) also earned a comeback victory after dropping the first set 3–6, 6–2, 6–4.Â
Eva Guta (Bucharest, Romania/Liceul Teoretic C.A. Rosetti (Romania)) fought hard in a three-set battle but fell 6–4, 3–6, 2–6, while Lucia Carmena (Alcala de Henares, Spain/Les Complutense Alcala de Henares) faced a tough opponent, falling 2–6, 1–6.
In doubles action, Guta and Melgar paired up, while Bailetti and Carmena formed the second duo. Each doubles match was played as one set to six games, with two doubles rounds completed. Guta and Melgar posted a 2–6, 6–4 performance, while Bailetti and Carmena went 3–6, 6–7 in a close finish that included a 5–7 tiebreak.
